EDUC 639: Research Showcase Blog

  1. Amanda, I appreciate how your proposal was to study students’ perception of digital badges. In many cases, certain initiatives or programs are not successful because students do not understand or see the value in them. If students do not see value in digital badges or if they perceive that universities or employers may not see value in them, they are not likely to motivated to earn them. Your proposal seems well thought out and possess a sound research design.

On a more personal note, I will certainly miss hearing your perspective on what we are learning each week. I have enjoyed working with and learning from you these past few months. I wish you luck as you finish up the program!

  2. Amanda,
What an insightful posting. Until taking the present course I had not heard of digital badging other than in passing once or twice. My curiosity is piqued. I understand your comment about its usage being trendy, much like some of the other topics proposed in research. Technology changes so fast and new fads are introduced all of the time to educational environments in the hope that the current fad will be the answer to one of the problems in education today. Your comment toward the end of your video sums up what you are looking for: your group wants to determine the most motivational approaches regarding the use of digital badging. Your description of the research design and questionnaire is concise without being too detailed. It sounds as though it would be an interesting research project. Thank you.
